Regatta Quay is the latest name for Albion Wharf on Ipswich Waterfront which is known by locals as Ipswich Docks. It is now being ponced up and sold on by Savilles to unsuspecting punters at ridiculous prices. The brochures appear to show a cheap version of London Docklands but omit the road ways as these construction would not look as neat with Juggernauts running past them. This has been taken care of by closing the road during the viewing period. This is the site of the worst congestion in England and as usually partly hidden in a cloud of diesel exhausts. Sleeping here really is a gas as truck drivers park up here and when they make a start about 3am they leave their trucks running for half an hour to warm up the engines. Still I suppose that is a handy alarm call. Youngsters have a lot of fun here though racing their hot hatches around all night and playing 'music'. That is also hidden from potential purchasers at the moment by closing the roads and footpaths they use. The late night turn out of drunks from Cardinal Park staggering along the waterfront has also been temporarily abated by making it impossible for them to take this route by the simple expedient of blocking up the footpaths. Even customers to Il Punto and Bistro on the Quay are finding it difficult to park as the carriage way is already blocked with residents car, well their visitors really as many are sharing their flats with friends. Still I suppose there is a bright side to all this as the prices crash and council tenants are moved in. Together with the illegal immigrants who at the moment seem content to just help themselves to a change of clothes and a parked car as they disembark and wander off to the mosque for directions. Soon the place will be over run with Bolshie students at the new University Campus being constructed on the waterfront so there will be no shortage of potential short term tenants for those who cannot sell there devalued flats. Below is the original Ipswich Docks Charter of 1837. There has to be a forty foot wide road all around the docks. Click on it and read it or go to the Ipswich Records Office in Gatacre and read the complete document.
